CRUSTACEAN / CRAB / LOBSTER / SHRIMP

Crabs mainly inhabit the sea and therefore have traditionally been associated with aspects of your unconscious. They may symbolize the ability to cultivate homely energy in various circumstances, as crab power is the energy of making a home, however far away from home you may be. Crabs also represent the energy of the psyche that rejects change and finds it hard to let go; the side of us that hangs back instead of taking a chance.

If you are bitten or pinched by a crab in your dream, it is possible that some part of your current situation is resistant to change; this might be because of yourself, or because of another. The armored body of the crab suggests the need to protect yourself against something or someone, and the pincer-like claws show a willingness to attack or tackle whatever obstacles lie in their path.

If a crab appears in your dream, could it be a reflection of a crabby or bad-tempered aspect of your personality; an aspect that resists the attempts of others to penetrate the rough outer shell you have developed in waking life to protect your soft emotional center?

If your dreaming mind saw a crab or lobster without its shell, this is a symbol of your feelings of emotional vulnerability.

If the crab scuttled sideways in your dream, this may mirror a tendency to be evasive when others try to get too close to you or it may also reflect your inability to think logically or in a straight line. Additionally, with their habit of burrowing under the sand, the crab may represent anything that is sapping your energy. Bear in mind, too, that the crab is the symbol for someone born under the astrological sign of Cancer, so your dream crab may be referring to them.

If a shrimp appears in your dream, this may represent rivalry or resentment towards someone, as ’shrimp’ is often a disparaging nickname. But when coupled with the mother image of the sea, the shrimp may represent the reawakening of dormant sibling or childhood rivalries.... The Element Encyclopedia

DESERTED PLACE

You are dreaming of unmet needs and the consequences of past choices that have not served you. Human beings are social animals. We have lived in community with one another since our arrival on the planet. To find yourself in a place that is deserted and devoid of the presence of other human beings would leave you helpless in many ways.

The severity of this vulnerability would depend greatly on where you were, what resources you had access to, as well as your own fortitude and courage. Even in the best of circumstances, your very survival would be at risk; hence, the primary symbolic meaning of this symbol is connected to risk and death. While loneliness might be thought of as the underlying emotional content of such an event, it is the absence of human resources that carries the interpretable weight of this symbol. Even if you found the absence of other people comforting, this meaning still applies. You may want to consider how relying on others for getting your needs met may be the root cause of the anxiety that sparked this dream.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

FACE

To see your own face in your dream, denotes the “mask” or “outer self” you choose to show to the world as opposed to the real, inner you. It may refer to confrontations and your willingness to deal with problems and issues in your life.

To dream that you face is flawed or pimply, represents erupting emotions. You may have suffered an attack on your emotions or your reputation.

If you dream of your face changing into another, you may be seeking escape from a current situation of high stress.

If your face turned into someone who you know, you may envy something about them and want it for yourself, or you may be trying to “get inside their head” so you can figure out why they are acting a certain way in real life.

If you dream of your face, the dream could represent that part of yourself that you show to others, but that is totally opposite to the true you. In contrast, if it is unpleasant, you should expect the unexpected arrival of something that will harm you economically.

FACE

If you dream of your own face, it may represent the persona you present to the world and not your real self; this is particularly so if you are putting on make- up. A dream face therefore refers to how you would like to be seen.

If a beautiful face appears, this may be connected to feelings of pride and satisfaction.

If the dream face is unknown, this suggests a possible change in the dreamer’s waking life.

If a dream face is being washed or cleaned, this can have links to guilt or sin, as the act of cleaning indicates a desire for a fresh start.

If the faces are familiar, it could be a portent of future social gatherings. To dream that your face is flawed or pimply represents erupting emotions. You may have suffered an attack on your reputation in waking life.

If you are blushing, this suggests embarrassment and feelings you do not want to reveal to others. An elderly face may simply be a projection of life in the future. However, aged faces also carry symbolic ties to the notions of wisdom and longevity.

If you are hiding your face, you may be ashamed of something or be feeling low in confidence.

If your forehead is fine and smooth in your dreams, this suggests good judgment and intellectual ability. To see a wrinkled forehead, however, suggests worries and burdens.

If you see your cheeks in your dream, this symbolizes commitment, intimacy and closeness. To see rosy- colored cheeks in your dream signifies enthusiasm and energy. Bear in mind the significance of puns too; are you facing up to your problems, or do you need to deal with someone or something face to face? Ancient dream oracles say that to see your face in a mirror in a dream means that a secret will be discovered.... The Element Encyclopedia

FACELESS

The face connects to the concept of the persona, the part of who we are that we readily show to the world. We hide our true self behind our face and choose what we want to present to others. This process can be oppressive, and a dream image of being faceless may indicate the consequences of either holding back too much authenticity or, conversely, exposing more than we are comfortable with. While your actions identify what you are committed to, it is through your face that you reveal your motivations. Without a face, the assimilation of an identity is impossible. An aspect of your personality that has no face may connect to a new way of being in the world. FACES

It is very common to dream about all kinds of faces. Strange faces and familiar faces alike are frequent images in our dreams. Interpret your dream by considering the face and the general content of the dream.

A stranger’s face could represent different parts of your personality or psyche. You think that you are seeing a stranger but in actuality you are seeing a different part of yourself. Jung said that the stranger is a part of you that comes from the unconscious.

A comic face may indicate that you have a conscious or unconscious need to mock or snub the conventional. Featureless faces suggest that you may feel unnoticed and unappreciated. On the other hand, some believe that the blank or unclear face represents a teacher. That is someone who is there to show and teach you a lesson but you are unprepared for it and the face is blank. Smiling faces are representative of happy thoughts and feelings and possibly anticipation of a joyful event in the near future. Always remember the compensatory nature of dreams and their ability to point to the opposite of what you experience in daily life.... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

All symbols that relate to fire are about change and transformation.

A fireplace is a humanmade construction designed to take the amazing power offered by a fire and contain it in such a way to provide any number of services. Fire represents change and transformation on an enormous scale.

However, when it is enclosed in a safe and durable structure, that force of change becomes both highly effective and focusable.

The usable power of fire lies in a very small window of the continuum on which it exists. Too little and it does little more than look pretty. Just a little too much and the danger is life- threatening and enormously destructive.

A fireplace is the organizing principle around which great power can be harnessed to accomplish a very specific goal.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

As a handworked adornment in vestments and altars within religious rites, lace has an extremely ancient history. In dreams, therefore, it comes to symbolize worship and perhaps the capturing of spirit in craft of knotting. When joining two pieces of material such as linen, it signifies the transition between the physical and the spiritual realms n much symbolism can be worked into lace, so it is useful to note what, if anything, is depicted pictorially in this manner in dreams. 1- Dreaming that we are in a market indicates our ability to cope with everyday life, of being able to relate to people, but particularly to relate to crowds.

It is also the place of buying and selling and therefore often gives us some sort of indication as to how we value our various attributes, whether we have something to sell or whether we arc buying.

2- A market is a bustling, happy place and to dream of one may indicate that we need to look after ourselves more and to spend time with more people. It could also suggest that we need to become more commercial in the work that we are doing, or perhaps to be more creatively influenced, rather than doing something purely and simply because it is commercial thus it has quite an ambivalent meaning.

Psychological / emotional perspective: A market is a bustling, happy place and to dream of one may indicate that we need to look after ourselves more and to spend time with more people.

An open air or farmers market suggests that we should pay more attention to the good things in life. It could also suggest that we need to become more commercial in the work that we are doing, or perhaps to be more creatively influenced, rather than doing something purely and simply because it is commercial – thus it has quite an ambivalent meaning.... MARKET / MARKETPLACE

Material aspects: Dreaming that we are in a market indicates our ability to cope with everyday life, of being able to relate to people, but particularly to relate to crowds.

It is also the place of buying and selling and, therefore, often gives us some sort of indication as to how we value our various attributes, whether we have something to sell or whether we are buying.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

MARKETPLACE

Going to the marketplace in a dream means seeking knowledge, or looking for work.

A marketplace in a dream also represents a mosque, or winning a war. In fact, the merchants and the customers bargain with one another, some win and some lose.

If a knowledge seeking student sees himself in a marketplace that he does not recognize, then if he walks away from it in the dream, it means that he will cease schooling or interrupt his studies and fail to acquire his degree, or it could mean that he has missed his Friday congregational prayers. It also could mean that the knowledge he is seeking is not intended to please God Almighty. Ifone sees himself shoplifting in a dream, it means that he steals, or holds contempt and conceit in his heart, or if he is a man of knowledge, it means that he will foster falsehood or become affected. Ifone sees a common marketplace on fire, or filled with people, or with a stream of fresh water running in the middle of it, or if it is fragrant with perfumes in the dream, then it represents good business for everyone and increase in their profits, though hypocrisy will later on spread among the people. Otherwise, if one finds the shops closed, the merchants drowsing and spiders webs spreading in every corner and covering the merchandise in the dream, it means stagnation of business or suffering major losses. Seeing the marketplace in a dream is also interpreted to represent the world. Whatever affects it will show in people’s lives, in their mosques, churches, or temples including their profits, losses, clothing, recovering from illness, lies, stress, sorrows or adversities.

If the market is quiet in the dream, then it represents the laziness of its salespeople.

MYSPACE

If you dream of going on Myspace (or about a Myspace page that you do or don’t have in real life), it symbolizes that you need to reach out to people who may not always physically be around. This dream might also suggest that you are spending too much time on the computer in your waking life. Maybe it’s time to get outside more and take a break from the screen! If you dreamed of leaving a message on someone else’s Myspace, you may be put into an unpleasant situation.

If you dream of getting a new message on your Myspace, there will be a change in your affairs.

To dream of reading messages on someone else’s Myspace page signifies that you are mistrustful of others and you tend to poke your nose into friends’ business. Perhaps you have recently stumbled upon some information that was not meant for your eyes.... My Dream Interpretation

NAME OF PERSON, PLACE

Our name represents our sense of self, our essential T.

If name is altered: suggests a sense of change in the way we see ourself. Other people’s names: our feelings for that person; the quality we feel in regard to someone else with the same name, or wordplay or associations with the name.

A woman dreamt a friend asks her ‘Do you know where Chris is?*; she replied he was on the back seat. On waking she realises she is being asked ‘Where’s the crisis?’ Two weeks later she had a kidney infection—in the back seat. Names also suggest qualities, as in Peter, the rock; or one’s friend Pat may be pleasure loving, so we use the name or person to represent that quality. See wordplay, puns.

Place names: these can represent our feelings about the place, or be similar to personal names in their suggestion of something. Example: ‘On the other side of the road was a window with my wife’s ring and watch and other trinkets. I went to pick them up but a stranger put his hand over them. I then crossed the road to get a bus to Andover’ (Arthur P). Arthur’s dream wants to make sure he gets the message by saying hand-over and Andover.

Idioms: call someone names; clear someone’s name; have a bad name; not a thing to one’s name; in name alone; in the name of; make a name for oneself; name dropper, one’s middle name, name is mud; somebody who shall be nameless; or my name’s not . . .; worthy of the name; name in vain; lend one’s name to; name the day. ... NECKLACE

(Decoration; Medal; Pendant) In a dream, woman’s necklace or earrings if they are made of pearls represent a gift from her husband.

If they are made of silver in the dream, they mean a physical ailment, and if they are made from beads in the dream, they mean being let down by one’s friends.

A necklace in a dream also represents women’s adornment.

If a man wears a necklace that is incrusted with gold, precious gems or sapphire in a dream, it represents a high ranking appointment, carrying a great responsibility, or fulfilling an important duty.

If one’s decoration also carries some silver coins in the dream, it means marriage to a beautiful woman. Wearing a decoration necklace that is made from silver and adorned with precious gems in a dream represents a political appointment which will be coupled with honor and wealth.

If the necklace is made from iron, it represents a political appointment that will expand one’s power.

If an ornate necklace is made of copper, then it represents mundane profits. Wearing a necklace that is made from beads in the dream represents an appointment with no authority. Woman’s necklace in a dream represents money entrusted to her by her husband. As for a pregnant woman, wearing a necklace in a dream means giving birth to a son.

A broken necklace in a dream means the impeachment of the governor of one’s town. As for a woman, a red necklace in a dream represents a mask.

A necklace for an unmarried woman in a dream represents a husband. Wearing a heavy necklace in a dream means carrying heavy burdens, or it could mean failure to perform one’s duties at work. Any defects or perfection a necklace shows when worn by a woman in a dream represent the condition or the state of her husband or guardian, or it could mean a trust she carries.

PALACE

Wandering through a palace and noting its grandeur, signifies that your prospects are growing brighter and you will assume new dignity.

To see and hear fine ladies and men dancing and conversing, denotes that you will engage in profitable and pleasing associations.

For a young woman of moderate means to dream that she is a participant in the entertainment, and of equal social standing with others, is a sign of her advancement through marriage, or the generosity of relatives. This is often a very deceitful and misleading dream to the young woman of humble circumstances; as it is generally induced in such cases by the unhealthy day dreams of her idle, empty brain. She should strive after this dream, to live by honest work, and restrain deceitful ambition by observing the fireside counsels of mother, and friends. See Opulence. ... A palace in a dream represents a prison, tightness, shortage of cash, or loss of respect for an abominable and sinful person.

If a rich person sees a palace in his dream, then it means rising in station, or repayment of his debts. Seeing a palace from a distance in a dream also means prosperity.

A palace in a dream represents an unknown person, or a private person who maintains a steady religious life. Entering a palace in a dream means gaining authority, rising in station, and a growing religious adherence.

If one sees himself managing his own palace in a dream, it means exaltation, power and reverence.

If the palace he is managing in the dream belongs to someone else, then it means earnings from such a person.

A palace in a dream also denotes good deeds. Entering a palace in a dream also means getting married. Entering a palace made of glass means a marriage that will not last.

PEARL NECKLACE

(Covenant; Husband; Qur’im; Wisdom) A pearl necklace in a dream represents woman’s beauty and ornaments.

A pearl necklace, or a necklace made of corals in a dream also means piety, fear of wrongdoing, or an expression of reverence before God Almighty. All of that is subject to the value, beauty and clarity of the necklace, or the number of gems it holds. As for a woman, a pearl necklace in a dream represents her husband, or her young son.

If a man sees himself wearing a pearl necklace in a dream, it means that he is a seeker of knowledge, spiritual understanding and wisdom. It could also mean fulfilling a covenant, making a promise, or getting married.

If one’s wife is pregnant, it means that she will give birth to a son who will grow to be a wise person, a man of knowledge, or ajudge. This interpretation is possible in most cases except if the necklace breaks in the dream. In this case, if the necklace is broken, it means that one will break his promise, or forget his learning, become heedless, suffer eviction, deportation, or be exiled from his home or country.

If one sees himself wearing one or even two pearl necklaces in a dream, it means that he subscribes to God’s revelations, memorizes God’s Words, recites the holy Qur’iin, speaks words of wisdom, and that he is one of the carriers of the divine trust who demonstrates trustworthiness, piety, trueness, religious commitment and beauty of character. All depending on the beauty, radiance and clarity of one’s necklace.

If one sees himself in a dream carrying many necklaces and decorations, and if he finds them heavy and unbearable to carry, it represents his incompetence, or his inability to complete a job.

PLACENTA

1- The placenta is a source of nourishment for the babv in the womb. In dreams, this becomes a symbol of how one gains nourishment from one’s surroundings. It also suggests ways in which the dreamer may be dependent on other people. When we undertake a new project, we have to be aware that we ourselves may not have the resources to care for ourselves properly We require nourishment from an outside source, but one to which we feel connected.

2- Personal dependency varies with each individual. Just as the relationship between mother and baby is unique and protected by the function of the placenta, so in dreams the placenta can highlight the uniqueness of such a relationship. One of the biggest traumas to be gone through is separation from mother and the placenta acts as a buffer in this process.

Dreaming of a placenta indicates our need for such a buffer at times of violent separation.

3- Spiritually, as human beings we are dependent on Mother Earth or the Great Mother (See Introduction). Until we are capable of properly appreciating that dependency, we have no choice but to recognise that reliance symbolised by the placenta.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

PLACES

When the environment or setting of a dream is particularly noticeable there is usually some kind of message or information being given. Sometimes the place reflects our inner state of mind or mood. It can be a reminder of a particular place which had meaning at a specific time in the dreamer’s life, and sometimes a reminder of particular people.

Interpreting the symbolism of certain places gives us an insight into our own ‘inner landscape’.

A place which becomes fertile or lighter in the course of the dream indicates that an aspect that the dreamer has not previously appreciated - or has found unpleasant - is now developing possibilities and potentials, possibly for spiritual development. Dreary, unfriendly places, or tranquil favourable landscapes may well refer to the dreamer’s subjective view of the world.

The country where the dream takes place may have certain resonances for the dreamer.

For example; America for most people will signify a rather brash, commercially oriented culture, England tends to be seen as inhibited and dutiful, while France will represent the temperamental masculine, and so on. Countryside The countryside can suggest a particular mood or feeling, especially of freedom. Composite scenes consisting of many images recognisable to the dreamer are usually drawing attention to particular qualities, ideals and moods which all enhance the information content of the dream, may have particular associations for the dreamer, or have been included because of frequently encountered associations.

The dreamer’s birthplace represents a secure space.

A bright and sunny place suggests fun and liveliness, whereas a dark, shadowy, murky scene signifies despondency and gloom. Darkened places can represent the unconscious.

A familiar place will often take us back to childhood or a time of learning and a particularly beautiful place may allow us to fantasise so that we can make more use of creative visualisation. Jungles connect with the labyrinth and ways of understanding our sexuality.

A placc which feels oppressive has been a sanctuary, but is no longer.

A sheltered place offers pcace and security. Unknown places indicate aspects of ourselves of which we are not aware. This can lead to a place that seems familiar and yet we do not know which signifies a situation we arc continually re-running in our lives. Wide-open spaces offer us freedom of movement.

An unfamiliar place will signify new aspects of the personality which have not yet become fully conscious.

A place that becomes fertile or lighter in the course of the dream indicates that an aspect that we have not previously appreciated – or have found unpleasant – is now developing possibilities and potentials, possibly for spiritual development. Dreary, unfriendly places, or tranquil favourable landscapes may well refer to our subjective view of the world.

To find such landscapes changing in the course of a dream suggests that our attitudes are changing.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

PLACES

Psychological / emotional perspective: The country where the dream takes place may have certain resonances for the dreamer.

For example, america for most people will signify a rather brash, commercially oriented culture, england tends to be seen as inhibited and dutiful, while france will represent the temperamental masculine, and so on. Other places that offer information for consideration are as follows: our birthplace represents a secure space where we feel at ease.

A bright and sunny place suggests fun and liveliness, whereas a dark, shadowy, murky scene signifies despondency and gloom. Darkened places can also represent the unconscious. Countryside can suggest a particular mood or feeling, especially of freedom. Composite scenes consisting of many images recognizable to us are usually drawing attention to particular qualities, ideals and moods. These all enhance the information content of the dream, may have particular associations for us or have been included because of frequently encountered associations.

A familiar place will often take us back to childhood or a time of learning and a particularly beautiful place may allow us to fantasize so that we can make more use of creative visualization. Jungles connect with the labyrinth and ways of understanding our sexuality, whereas a place that feels oppressive has formerly been a sanctuary, but is no longer.

A sheltered place offers peace and security. Also see the individual entry. Unknown places indicate aspects of ourselves of which we are not yet aware. Such places can lead to an environment that seems familiar and yet we do not know it. This signifies a situation we are continually re-running in our lives. Wide-open spaces offer us freedom of movement.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

PLACES

Whatever happens in your dream, the landscape or setting in which the action takes place will be extremely significant to the interpretation.

When interpreting your dreamscape, bear in mind that the setting is often a vivid clue about the topic of your dream and a metaphor for a real-life situation you may be dealing with, whether external, such as relationship demands or internal, such as an inner conflict. Jung paid close attention to the details of landscape and setting in his work on dream analysis, looking for clues to the emotional condition of his patients. For example, a sunny scene might indicate optimism and a gray landscape a gloomy view on life. He believed that the purpose of dreamscapes is to mirror feelings and concepts concerning inner development.

In short, landscapes and settings in dreams refer to the feelings you have about yourself and your life, and however meaningful the other symbols in your dream may be, they only really make sense if interpreted within their context. It would be impossible to list all the possible settings here as every dream can have its own unique dreamscape. Listed below are just some of the limitless possibilities that your dreaming mind might conjure up.

If you can’t find your specific landscape, setting or symbol here, try looking for it under the relevant entry in the index. See also BUILDINGS; HOME; NATURE AND THE SEASONS; WEATHER.... The Element Encyclopedia

SPACE

Space is a powerful symbol of thinking outside the box or going beyond limiting concepts or boundaries.

If you are traveling in space or become an astronaut in your dream, this suggests an expanded awareness of there being more out there than merely your own personal experience.

Alternatively, such images may suggest that you are feeling out of touch with reality or other people, or that you feel ill at ease with yourself.

If your dreams take you through the boundless infinity of space it can be both unnerving and exhilarating, and such a vision may suggest changes in circumstances that have the potential to offer independence and freedom.

If you dream of traveling by spaceship or shuttle, this suggests your intuition or a means of exploring your inner resources.... The Element Encyclopedia

SPACE AND SCIENCE

Outer space represents the ultimate in mystery, challenge and unexplored potential in dreams as much as in waking life.

This general interpretation is reinforced by the well-known expression ’to reach for the stars’—or to strive to achieve your ambition—and if your dream focused on one particular star or plant, your dreaming mind may have been attempting to bring your aspirations to your attention. The sun, the moon and the stars are traditionally thought to influence a person’s destiny and, according to Western astrology, the Zodiac sign under which you were born, derived from the position of the stars and planets at the time of your birth, is thought to influence your character and the direction of your life.

Jung associated different archetypes with specific planets and believed that birth charts would generate archetypal images telling him something about the subject of the chart. He frequently looked at the birth charts of his patients with the assumption that the symbols in the charts made suggestions to him from the collective unconscious about that person’s psyche. Whether you believe in the principles of astrology or not, your unconscious may have tapped into these ancient associations, which is why it is always worth considering them when interpreting your dreams. WORKPLACE

Schools, colleges, universities and the workplace have much in common. They are all centers of learning, anxiety and ambition, and places where people interact and learn from each other. This is why the unconscious may use them as interchangeable dream metaphors. Your boss may appear in your dream as a teacher, or colleagues may appear in the guise of school friends or classmates. So if a dream places you in a workplace, remember to look for any links with school scenarios.

If your dream featured your actual workplace and colleagues you work with everyday, it may have been highlighting your preoccupation with your job. It may also have been trying to draw your attention to a specific aspect of your job. You spend much of your time at work, so work is of considerable importance emotionally.

If you are comfortable at work, dreams of the workplace and the people with whom you work may become symbols of reassurance and reward; but if you are not comfortable at work, they can become symbols of frustration.

If you had a dream in which you were performing mindless repetitive tasks on an assembly line, perhaps you feel as if you are being treated like a mindless automaton in waking life or that others are making relentless demands on you. Or do you feel that you are losing your sense of identity in your job or that people in your life are taking you for granted?... The Element Encyclopedia
