ACTIVITIES AND ENVIRONMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH CHILDHOOD

Dreams about activities and environments associated with childhood can be either motivating or discouraging, depending on the details of your dream and how you felt. For example, if you had a happy time playing with your dolls or a toy train set, your dream may simply be reminding you of the simple pleasure of letting your guard down from time to time to do nothing useful but play and relax. These kinds of dreams are particularly common if you have been extremely busy recently and haven’t had time to have fun. If, however, you were bored by the toy or activity in your dream, your unconscious may be urging you to put away childish things that don’t really give you stimulation and satisfaction, and to spend your time more productively.

Toys in dreams not only reflect your desire for more play, or urge you to grow up in some way, they can also suggest nostalgia for childhood that has been lost. Dolls are especially important because they so resemble the human form, and because children endow them with emotions and characters. Your dreaming mind may therefore use a doll to symbolize something or someone in your life. For example, if you stick needles or pins in the doll, or mistreat it in any way, this can represent negative feelings towards a particular person. Many doll dreams use the doll as a target for violence and, if this is the case, it could also refer to how the dreamer felt as a child when smacked emotionally or physically—like a helpless child. Dolls can also represent emotions that the dreamer would like to discharge on someone else, or the feeling of wanting to be a precious doll to someone. It may also express some undeveloped part of the dreamer’s personality and the need to relearn some childhood lessons we may have forgotten.

If you dreamed that you were in a playground surrounded by other children, were you enjoying yourself or did you feel left out? If you felt exhilarated, your unconscious may once again be signaling your need to have more fun in waking life, but if you felt aloof or alone from the other children, it could suggest that you prefer to play no part in the immature behaviour currently displayed by a group of people in your waking life. BIRTH AND CHILDHOOD

Whilst pregnant women often dream about giving birth in anticipation of the upcoming event, dreams of giving birth typically have very little connection with the biological process of reproduction and more to do with a sense of being reborn, of fresh beginnings, of ideas coming to fruition or a period of personal growth. This sense is mirrored in everyday language: ‘giving birth to a new idea’, which refers to a project, not a baby.

For Jung, dreams about giving birth were important because he believed they represented a stage in the process of what he called ‘individuation’, the growth of the human psyche to maturation and wholeness. Birth therefore represents the start of an important new stage in your life and psychological development. We tend to dream of birth at the beginning of a new life stage, way of life, attitude, ability or project. We also have such dreams when we need to let go of the past and come to terms with the new. Birth is symbolic of new beginnings: beginning college, starting or ending a relationship, launching a new career and moving house are all associated with birth themes in dreams. Although women from their teen years onwards tend to have birth dreams more than men, it can happen to anyone at anytime. There may often be something strange or unusual about the birth of the child. These details are important as they can symbolize what part of your life is changing and how others will receive this new development.

Jung also claimed that the symbol of the child, as with the symbol of birth, represents new beginnings and possibilities, and paves the way for future changes in your personality. A common theme in mythology is the ‘divine child’ or mystical hero or savior; for instance, the baby Jesus who saves the world from damnation. The divine child is the symbol of the true self, both vulnerable and pure, but also capable of great transforming power. In your dream, it may represent your true self urging you to explore new possibilities and reach your full potential. Therefore dreaming of a baby or child who could be yourself, one of your own children, a child you know or an unknown child, gives access to your own inner child. We all have parts of ourselves which are childlike, curious and vulnerable, and when we are able to get in touch with these parts we are reminded of our true potential for wholeness.

Although dreams of birth and childhood may appear to be simply nostalgic memories, most dream researchers believe that they have a strong bearing on your current circumstances in waking life. For example, your dream may be telling you that you have forgotten how to play or that you should take a fresher, more innocent approach to life. They may also be manifestations of an unconscious desire to escape from the responsibilities and problems of waking life. In addition, they may represent a part of you that needs reassurance and comfort, or a part of you that needs to care, to love and to begin anew. As such they can represent important psychological, spiritual and physical needs.... The Element Encyclopedia

BROKEN GLASS

Dreams of walking on broken glass, seeing or being surrounded by shards of glass or, even worse (and far from everyday), having to eat broken glass may represent cutting words or wounding experiences. The vivid image in the dream is designed to draw your attention to a pain that you may have been denying in waking life. It can also refer to something clear and pure that has been broken, suggesting the shattering of expectations. Typically, such dreams are linked to personal, rather than career, conflicts.

If you have such a dream, has something in your waking life changed dramatically and has that change caused you pain? If you are eating the glass, this suggests that you are taking in the painful experience, but it may be asked whether you are trying to swallow rather than acknowledge your pain.

If you are walking on glass, consider how your direction in life is causing you pain.... The Element Encyclopedia

CHILD

Some people have reoccurring dreams about a small child, while others, from time to time, dream about unfamiliar children.

The child in your dream could represent your inner self, or the child within.

The dream could be based on childhood memories, and it may carry a specific message or bring up long-buried issues. On the other hand, the dream could simply be a pleasant memory. Children in dreams could symbolize a need and an eagerness to learn, simplicity, intuition, new endeavors and many other positive attributes of childhood. Occasionally, the child in your dreams may be pointing to your own childish ways. Therefore, consider all of the details and the tone of the dream before making an interpretation.... CHILD

Either a positive symbol that refers to new possibilities, or a hint that we are resisting maturity and completion.

The child represents the essential in us that we want to see mature. We are supposed to tell the truth (“children and fools speak the truth”) and be less complicated (“if you become like children...”).

If women dream about a child, it is usually because they are longing to have one, or that they are looking for something new, meaning a change in lifestyle is about to happen.

Also a symbol of the prime of life and continuity.

A sick child points to emotional difficulties. Pay attention to what attitude the child has in the dream! These attitudes want to be supported and made conscious.

According to Freud, the child may represent self- regression or one’s own genitals (“my little one,” my penis).

It is still true today that regressive tendencies are involved when an adult dreams about a child.

However, we ought not to dismiss Freud’s belief that “reclaiming one’s own childlike simplicity” can also be a positive process that allows us in later years to become lively and even revive a sense of eroticism.

The symbol of the child appearing in a dream is always connected to vitality, the joy of life, and also sexuality.

beautiful unspoilt product of Nature; that it is worthy of unreserved love; and that it needs the nourishment of your love if it is to grow and unfold all its loveliness.

(3) If the child has some divine aura (e.g. if it is the Christ-child), what is symbolized is as in (2) above. The aura represents the transcendent nature of the self: it is much more than your conscious ego or your present image of yourself; it holds together the opposites that are within you (e.g. conscious and unconscious, ‘head’ and ‘heart’, extroversion and introversion, masculine and feminine), and it is your ultimate goal and fulfilment (for self).

(4) The child may represent (the possibility of) a new beginning, a new development in your psyche - a new attitude to life, a new set of values, a new balance of your psychic forces, a new reconciliation of previously conflicting forces. The child in you is the growing-point in you.

(5) There is in all of us a child - our emotional self - that often needs reassurance, to be told that all is well and there is no cause for fear, or anger, or guilt, and that love makes all things good and dissolves all pain. In dreams, a child can represent your most juvenile part, and your potential. Maybe, you recognize in him the hopes and ideals you had in the past. Arguing with him indicates that something in you is rebelling. If, in the dream, you get along with them or there is a reconciliation, it indicates that you are giving up due to certain demands or conditions. It may also deal with your own child and the meaning would be literal.

CHILD

[DREAM IMAGES: CHILD OF NATURE; DIVINE; MAGICAL / INNOCENT; ORPHAN; WOUNDED]

The child of nature archetype inspires deep, intimate bonding with natural forces. Although the nature child is loving and giving, it can also have an inner toughness and ability to survive—the resilience of Nature herself. Nature children can develop advanced skills of communicating with animals, and in dreams reflecting this archetype, an animal often comes to the rescue of its child companion. Such dreams can reflect a compassionate, nature-loving aspect of our character, or the need to stop abusing the environment (understood in its widest sense) and reconnect with nature.

The magical child embodies qualities of wisdom and courage in the face of difficult circumstances. In dreams, it suggests the power of imagination and the belief that everything is possible. If, however, the magic is not put to positive use, the dream image is a negative one, and indicates lack of energy and action in waking life.

The orphan child is the major character in most well-known children’s stories, including ‘Bambi’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Little Orphan Annie’, ‘The Matchstick Girl’, ‘Snow White’ and many more. The pattern in these stories is often reflected in the dreams of people who feel from birth as if they are not a part of their family or community, or who fear surviving alone in this world.

The wounded child archetype in dreams holds the memories of the abuse, neglect and other traumas that may have been endured during childhood. From a spiritual perspective, a wounded childhood cracks open the learning path of forgiveness. The shadow aspect may manifest as an abiding sense of self-pity, a tendency to blame your parents for your current shortcomings and to resist moving on through forgiveness.

Whilst dreams about children that never grow old reveal a determination to remain eternally young in body, mind, and spirit, they can also suggest an inability to grow up and embrace the responsible life of an adult. Peter Pan is the most obvious example of this archetype—he resists ending a cycle of life in which he is free to live outside the boundaries of conventional adulthood. For women, this archetype may manifest as extreme dependency on those who take charge of their physical security. A consistent inability to be relied on, and the inability to accept the aging process, are also markers of this archetype.

Carl Jung claimed that the dream symbol of a child is a metaphor for the forgotten things in childhood. For example, your dream may be telling you that you have forgotten how to play, or that you should take a more innocent, carefree attitude. The symbol of the child also represents possibilities and paves the way for future changes in the personality. In addition, it can also represent the part of you that needs security and reassurance. CHILD

A dream about a child (under the age of thirteen or so) may be a dream about yourself.

If you are having a wonderful time playing and dressing up, the dream may be encouraging you to have more fun in your adult life. A dream about a child refusing to share or being inconsiderate may be a comment on your own weaknesses. Has your recent behavior or approach to life been a little childish? If you are the child in the dream, this can suggest a need to shed some of your current responsibilities in real life or express your real self.

If you are caring for a child or infant, and not really wanting to, perhaps someone in waking life is being demanding and requiring too much attention.

If you want to have a child and dream of one, you may become a parent in the not-so-distant future.

If you lose a child, whether your own or an unknown child, you may be anxious that you have taken on responsibilities you cannot handle.

If the child is one of your children, look up son and daughter.

If your dream did not evoke specific memories of your own childhood or an unknown child appeared, your unconscious may have summoned up an archetype in the staring role—that of the inner child. Whether your inner child was portrayed by you or by another character in the dream, he or she represents the part of you that, Peter Pan-like, has never grown up, or a part of you that you have banished from your waking life, but longs to be rediscovered. Your unconscious may therefore be highlighting your own immature behavior, or else your longing to recapture childhood innocence. Once again, the clue lies in the child’s behavior.

If the child in the dream is bullying another child, this could be related to how you are cruelly treating someone in real life. If, however, you are the victim in the dream, do you feel vulnerable, abused and powerless in waking life? If the child in the dream is happily playing with their toys, do you long to return to the optimistic, childhood state of mind before the realities of life closed in avenues of opportunity? Do you long to return to a time when anything seemed possible? Try to remember the child’s behavior—was he or she friendly or unfriendly, smiling or throwing a tantrum and consider whether the dream is commenting on your own current life and behavior. Do you have a tendency to fly into a childish rage when you don’t get your way in waking life?... The Element Encyclopedia

CHILD, CHILDHOOD

Symbol: The child is a symbol of receiving unconditionally.

Vision: Watching healthy children at play: success and good times. Crying, screaming, and sick children, children that are falling down or undernourished, are all a sign of worries ahead. Giving birth to a child: a new job is opening up.

If the child is being baptized: you are returning to your religious faith. Seeing a sleeping child: your future will be free of worries. When a child appears in a woman’s dream, it usually means that she wants a child.

The dream may also indicate that new plans, your job, or other changes are emotionally taxing.

If the child appears time and time again, think about making some changes.

Depth Psychology: The child represents actual conflict situations that have become burdensome, and you are looking for a solution, a way out. This dream also means you want to “start over again” or avoid making a decision by going back home (being protected as a child). Dreams about childhood are usually an indication that you are trying to avoid responsibilities; but they may also be an expression of child-like character traits, or your dependency on others! CHILDHOOD DREAMS

Research has shown that sensitive or gifted children tend to be more prone to dreams and nightmares. Dreams in childhood often mirror the stress and confusion that is associated with the early years of our lives. Frightening dreams or nightmares are common to children up to the age of around eight.

If you are a concerned parent, simply talking about the dream with your child can help dissipate the tension around them. Avoid the instinct to tell the child that it was just a dream and that dreams aren’t real, as this may discourage your child from confiding in you, or simply frustrate them because you don’t take it seriously. You may also have a child who dreams with their eyes open for a few seconds after the dream is over and they are awake. CHILDHOOD HOME / HOME FROM THE PAST

If your childhood home or a home from the past continually features in your dreams, this does not necessarily mean you are stuck in the past or long to return to the security of childhood. The homes in which you once lived can become symbols of certain factors that shaped the person you have now become. Perhaps the most common past home dream is that of living in the house you lived in when you were a child. There may be major changes to the structure of the house, there may be people there that you hadn’t met when you lived there, but you know that house more intimately than any other. It is a true reflection of yourself and the storehouse for all your emotions, both positive and negative. The house in which you grew up always has a huge influence on your psychology. Your house gives you boundaries and it is the place where you go to feel safe, its every corner a reflection of your mind. It is the symbol of your family, connections and traditions.

Your dream childhood home can help give you clues about your current situation and help you examine your personality. What kind of house was it? Was it a large or small house, and did you think it was the same size when you were young? Are you still living in the same house? How many floors did it have? How many windows? What was its shape? Most of us live in square houses with corners, but some people’s houses are round with no corners. Some suggest this may have a profound effect on a person’s psychology because circles represent infinity and thus no restrictions. Can you remember what colors your house was painted in; how do those colors affect your feelings now? If something good always happened to you in a certain room, the color of that room may still make you happy for the rest of your life. Was there a place in your house where you went if you were miserable, or a place where something bad happened? What were the colors and shapes that were involved? Is it a dark place or a light place?

Although you are by no means doomed to repeat past mistakes, your dreaming mind may use your first home as an important reference throughout your life and you may often find yourself trying to work through current issues in the setting of this childhood home. Try to think of such dreams as an opportunity to reflect on your basic beliefs about home and family. Are you repeating patterns from your childhood in a current relationship and situation? Can your dream help you relate the past to your present life and to your life in the future?... The Element Encyclopedia

CHILDHOOD RECOLLECTIONS

(1) Many dreams repeat or allude to childhood experiences and impressions. Nearly all such dreams have a therapeutic purpose, giving us a clearer view of ourselves, perhaps showing us some attitude or pattern of behaviour that has been with us since childhood, and perhaps even showing us the original cause of it.

Unfulfilled instinctual desires provide the energy for manv of our dreams, and the fact that an instinctive desire remains unfulfilled may be connected with a traumatic experience in childhood. That experience has probably been repressed because it was traumatic - causing guilt, anxiety, fear of punishment. (For repression) Your dreams may, therefore, be helping you to uncover the source of these blockages which inhibit the free flow of the natural forces within you.

(2) Recurring dreams may represent some psychic disturbance or problem that originated in childhood. Here are some examples:

Dreams of being naked may sometimes represent recollections of, and perhaps longing for, the paradise of childhood when one w alked

around unclothed without embarrassment. (Sometimes these dreams, as Freud said, express a desire for someone of the opposite sex to present himself / herself in the nude, and stem from sexual frustration.)

Dreams of flying or falling may derive from childhood enjoyment of swings and see-saws. They may express straightforward yearnings for the remembered joy of childhood, but they may also reflect one’s present state of unhappiness and a futile desire to retreat from one’s problematic adult life. A problem is not a thing; rather, it is a relationship - for example, a relationship of conflict either between your external circumstances and your inner wishes (in which case the solution consists in either remov ing yourself from the circumstances or modifying your wishes) or between one part of your psyche and another (in which case the solution is to integrate the part that has been neglected). See also Falling, Flying.

Dreams of failure stem from childhood fears of disapproval from parents. However, die fact that your dreams contain these recollections suggests that you have programmed yourself for anxiety.

If so, begin by loving the child that is still within you: reassure it, tell it that everything is all right and that there is no such thing as failure where there is love. See also Failure.

(3) Dreams which contain recollections of yourself as a free and happy child may indicate a desire to find your true self. The child is then a symbol of the complete and permanent inner freedom and joy which are enjoyed only when you have become acquainted with all the forces within you - both conscious and unconscious - and have established harmonious relationships among them. See also Child, sections (2)-(4).

(4) The child may represent the primitive psyche with which your conscious ego needs to get acquainted if wholeness is to be achieved. This primitive psvche is the mind of humankind in its infancy, before the development of self-consciousness and reasoning. This original awareness is still with us, but buried in unconsciousness.... CHILDHOOD REVISITED

It is during childhood that we learn many of the fundamental rules and responsibilities of life. It is also the time when we develop our personalities and become increasingly socialized. It makes sense, therefore, that dreams of revisiting a place or a scenario from your own childhood often focus on lessons that you learned, or failed to learn, and these lessons may be relevant to your current situation.

If you dreamed of a particularly happy childhood memory—for example, you are seven years old and your dad brings home your first bike, or you are five years old sitting happily on your mum’s lap sucking your thumb—the dream could either be pointing to your nostalgia for a time when life was full of fun, or it could be more concerned with your present feelings of insecurity. The dream is reminding you of a time when life was simple, and in so doing, it compensates you for your current feelings of confusion.

If you are facing a difficult decision, it could also have been highlighting your need to put yourself forward and take a risk by focusing on your new bike—something you wanted but also feared, as you weren’t wholly confident riding it yet.

Consider, too, whether your unconscious has cast archetypal figures in the role of your mother and father. Relation-figures in dreams of childhood can often represent archetypes rather than actual family members. Alternatively, if your unhappy childhood returns to haunt you in dreams (which may reoccur), your unconscious may be forcing you to relive those miserable times in an attempt to make you confront the source of your distress and deal with it, now that you have an adult understanding of the situation. Your unconscious is trying to help you come to terms with what happened to you, so you can put it behind you.... The Element Encyclopedia

CHILDREN

All people in your dreams are reflections of your personality. At the heart of this symbol, children represent innocence. However, the behavior and actions of the children may affect how you interpret their presence in your dream. Also consider the age of the child or children in the landscape of the dream. They may represent new ideas, patterns, and expressions of consciousness that emerged in your waking life at the time of their birth. For example, a seven-year-old child may connect to some element of your life that began seven years prior to having the dream. You can also look at the age of a child in a dream as relating to a pattern that emerged in your consciousness at that age. From this perspective, the seven-year-old dream child relates to something that happened to you when you were seven.

If the children in your dream are your own, the dream is likely reflecting issues that are more literal and about your home life.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

CHILDREN

Children in a dream are symbols of joy and warmth, or of your desire for joy and warmth in waking life.

If children are giving flowers, fruits or sweets, this suggests unexpected success or happiness. If, however, the children are quarrelling, this indicates domestic problems. Children in dreams can also represent feelings about your childhood, or current feelings of dependency or vulnerability. What is happening to the child in the dream will help you determine the interpretation.

If the children in your dream are boys, they symbolize high energy levels and new beginnings.

If the boys are playing, this suggests the resolution of domestic or financial problems. If, however, the boys are quarrelling, this dream may be a warning to listen to the advice of people around you, especially if they are older than you. Perhaps you have been acting rashly.

If one or more of the boys are injured, it is a serious warning to take a sober look at how you run your day-to-day life.

If the children in your dreams are girls you know and they are smiling, friendly or affectionate, this suggests that your general attitude of honesty will be much appreciated by those around you.

If you don’t know the girls, this can suggest the beginnings of a new relationship.

If the girls are untidy, disruptive, crying, angry or abusive, this could be a warning to show more understanding to your partner and those around you to avoid arguments and unnecessary misunderstandings.... The Element Encyclopedia

DISH / DRINK / FOOD / GLASS

In dreams, a dish usually represents food that needs to be eaten now, and thus represents ideas or projects that should be tackled immediately. Jungians often see a drinking glass or wineglass as a symbol of the mythical Holy Grail, offering the dreamer spiritual sustenance. For Freudians, to dream of drinking from a glass expresses sexual desire, as like other receptacles, the glass symbolizes the female genitals. A broken drinking glass can represent loss of virginity. Food and drink are everyday items that regularly feature in dreams. In general, they are regarded as positive signs, but there are so many possible interpretations when food or drink—or eating and drinking—feature in a dream that a whole chapter has been devoted to the subject later on. GLASS

(Clarity; Perception; Wisdom; Woman) In a dream, glass represents an early stage of a temporary anxiety, depression or stress. Such condition is less serious when glass is seen collected as broken chips in a container in a dream. Seeing through glass in a dream means uncovering something that is hidden. In a dream, all glassware, stained glass, engraved glass, or decorative glass of green, red or yellowish color represent a suspicious person, money earned from a suspicious source or suspicion about one’s wife, or even suspicion about one’s true children, or it could mean eavesdropping, affectation or hypocrisy. In a dream, any glass by-products represent people of knowledge, scholars, gnostics, sages or people of wisdom. Buying a glittering glass ornament, or a house made of mother of pearl in a dream means choosing the pleasures of this world over the everlasting joy of the hereafter, or it could mean disdaining to obey God’s commands, or it could mean becoming an apostate.

A drinking glass cup in a dream represents a woman. Receiving a glass of water in a dream means that one’s wife is pregnant.

An unknown kind of glass cup or a roughly cut drinking glass of water in a dream means that there is a fetus in the mother’s womb.

If the glass of water breaks and the water remains in the dream, it means that the mother may die after giving birth and the infant will survive. Ifthe water spills and the glass remains intact in the dream, it means that the fetus may die and the mother will survive.

The breaking of a glass in a dream also denotes the death of the one who is serving it.

If a sick person is given a glass of wine, or water, or a bitter apple drink, or a laxative in a dream such a drink represents his last cup.

GLASS

Glass in dreams represents the hidden but powerful feelings and social barriers we use in everyday life. These include caution, inhibition, disinterest, pride and the fear of being hurt. Frosted or smoked glass suggests parts of yourself that you are keeping hidden from others. It can also indicate an obscure or unclear view of a situation. Occasionally it relates to death, the very real yet obscure experience we all face.

If you dream of breaking glass, what barrier or restraint are you breaking through? Could it mean that your emotions might be shattered? Breaking something made of glass might symbolize the breaking up of a relationship, the shattering of an illusion or simply that you or someone else are broken-hearted.

Glass may not always be very visible, so it may represent hidden dangers; if you dream of stepping on broken glass, it suggests that you are being careless about your direction in life or your present situation; if it is being done without heed to injury, walking on glass represents selfinflicted pain.

If you dream of glasses as in spectacles, this refers to your ability to see or understand something or someone clearly. GLASS, LOOKING

(See Mirror).

To see your reflection in a looking-glass means that you will be neglected in marriage and you will have bad luck in financial affairs.

If a woman sees her lover in a looking-glass, it is a sign that she will have grounds for a breach-of-promise suit.

A married woman seeing her husband in a mirror may look forward to anxiety through his possible dishonesty.

It is a warning against coming indiscretions if a woman sees the reflection of a man other than her husband in the looking-glass.

For a man to see the reflection of women he does not know means that he should guard against entangling alliances.... The Complete Dream Book

GLASSES

The dream should be interpreted according to personal connotations attributed to this object in the dream. Someone shy about wearing them will surely recognize in this dream a source of sadness and shame.

If the dreamer losses or breaks her glasses it refers to the loss of self- esteem or reputation. But there could also be a comment on how well she sees events and problems of daily life.

If you wear corrective lenses, you do not see things as they are and, therefore, need to increase your perception of reality. Sunglasses indicate that you hide from the truth and try to escape from everyday reality, and the experiences it provides.

Glasses denote, for the dreamer, a conflict in the way she perceives life events. They also symbolize clairvoyance.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

GLASSES

Glasses are a symbol for seeing the world in a different way, or improving the way you perceive some aspect of your life.

If you have lost a pair of glasses, the dream indicates a need to find a better viewpoint. Broken glasses suggest that a way of seeing things that previously worked for you is no longer viable.

If you wear glasses in your waking life, then the dream may be about connecting to your personal way of viewing things.

If you don’t, the dream may be suggesting the need to correct your current viewpoint.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

MONEY / HANDBAG / JEWELRY / PURSE / WALLET

Money, cash or coins in dreams are often thought to be a sign of emotional transactions.

If you give money away, this suggests a generosity of spirit or it might reflect emotional ties that are expected of you at present. Receiving money can suggest the acceptance of emotional support or the emotional needs of the dreamer. Borrowing money can be a warning to hold back as far as financial plans are concerned and to explore all aspects of the deal before going ahead. Making a payment, signing a check or using a credit card are thought to be positive signs that things are going to plan. The notion of saving and investing in dreams may refer to the need to prepare yourself emotionally for situations and relationships that need your attention

A wallet, purse or pocketbook containing personal items may relate to your private world, the kind of person you are and your interests.

If you dream of an expensive designer purse or bag, you may feel a need to have a more glamorous image. A worn purse may symbolize feelings of being worn out and shabby. Do you need to brighten up your identity so that you look and feel brighter? Your dream wallet may symbolize your private thoughts and desires, hidden from public view. Is your wallet full or empty? Are you worried that someone has got too close to you or on the contrary are you seeking greater intimacy? A bag in your dream may symbolically carry your hopes for the future. A heavy bag suggests more projects than you can handle, whilst an empty bag—far from meaning that you have no hope—suggests that you wish to search for new ideas. Frequently associated with fruit, a basket may evoke images of fertility and sexuality. Depending on what is in the basket, it can suggest youthful energy or ripe maturity.

Finally, items of jewelry are symbols of wishes and wish-fulfillment.

If you are given a gift of jewelry in your dream, you may be experiencing a sense of recognition in waking life. Viewing a rare jewel from a distance may be a sign that you have failed to understand the importance or meaning of an event or relationship. Losing a jewel may reflect fears of personal or financial loss in waking life. See also CRYSTALS, GEMSTONES AND ROCKS; MONEY AND SHOPPING.... The Element Encyclopedia

Using a telescope in your dream suggests the need to take a closer look at something. WALL

A wall in a dream represents knowledge, guidance, cognizance, knowing secrets, judgment, or separation between friend. Standing by a wall or sitting on it, and depending on its conditions in a dream represents one’s own state.

A wall in a dream also represents a strong, wealthy, powerful and religious person.

If the wall needed urgent repairs, and if a group of people come to rescue it in the dream, it represents a man of knowledge, or the Imam ofa mosque who has lost his control or respect, then some friends will come to his rescue and to help him restore his rank.

If a successful businessman sees the walls of his house collapsing in a dream, it means that he will recuperate a lost treasure.

If one sees a wall caving over his head, or falling over other people in a dream, it means that he has committed many sins and unless his repents, his punishment will be swift.

The caving-in of a wall toward the inside of a house in a dream means an illness, but if it falls toward the outside in the dream, it means death. Seeing a crack in the wall in a dream means that someone in the family will brace against him. Grabbing to a wall in a dream means the nearing of one’s death, pending how firmly one is grabbing to it in the dream. Grabbing to a wall in a dream is also interpreted as holding firmly to one’s interest in a strong person. Ifone builds a wall then tears it down in a dream, it means that he will attempt at destroying someone’s livelihood, or perhaps kill him. Ifone sees and recognizes a wall in his dream, it represents a close friend who may die from depression.

A wall in a dream is also interpreted as a mighty person who cannot be managed except through kindness. Jumping over a wall in a dream means reverting from being a believer to a disbeliever, or accepting and following the advice of a disbeliever. Seeing one’s picture reflected in a wall in a dream means one’s death, and that his name will be itched on his gravestone.

If a traveller sees himselfreturning to his house, whereby its walls are renewed, it means that he will get married. Seeping water from a crack in a wall in one’s dream means adversities and stress.

WALL

Codes of behaviour, belief systems, attitudes—often unconscious—you live within, or are protected by; the boundaries of behaviour or thought you keep within, are fearful of extending beyond, or are trapped by, thereby what one feels to be barriers or restrictions, one’s feelings of confidence which protect against anxiety or social knocks’; the feelings or attitudes you keep people away with—the walls we put up between us to maintain privacy, stop being hun, or to maintain a role or status. Also a special feeling which you have created, such as developing a sense of one’s own value.

Example: I realised T had been in Bill’s room and not respected his need for privacy, so Bill had tom down the wall as a protest and made the room, which now appeared about four times its usual size, into a public sitting room’ (Cyril A). Sometimes what the wall depicts is obvious, as in the example, where it is shown as the way Cyril maintains his separation from others and thus is a private individual.

The fall of the wall shows how exposed’ one might be.

The description of private areas of our life in a newspaper might be an example of just such a wall coming down. Idioms: drive up the wall; go to the wall; writing on the wall; back to the wall; knock one’s head against a wall. See wall, fence. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

WALL

Our defensive attitudes; feelings of security; social barriers; boundaries created by anxiety or view of life—a nationalistic attitude might act as a barrier to seeing other viewpoints on history. Our dependence upon our physical senses gives a boundary to our awareness, and a wall may symbolise such a frontier of our awareness.

Example: ‘I went to the top of the turret and saw all the men getting ready to defend the castle if attacked. They had arrows and a lot of men were standing on little ledges on the outside of the wall, with no protection and I knew they were very brave to face an attack as sooner or later they would have been hit’ (Anna R). Here the wall is obviously to do with defending the dreamer against attack. Such a wall might be made out of our aggressive feelings, with religious dogma which might defend us against fears and uncertainty, or from tightly controlled behaviour and emotions.

Walls of favourite house: might be our feelings of security in our marriage or family which give us defence against the ‘storms’ of life. Wall of prison, trap: fear, pain; ignorance, prejudice; anger, sense of being an outsider. Idioms: drive somebody up the wall, go to the wall; writing on the wall; back to the wall; head against a brick wall; fly on the wall. See wall under house; fence. ... WALLS

Walls signify a block to progress, a difficulty we have or will come up against. Often the nature of the wall will give some clue as to what the block is.

For instance, a wall which looks old will signify an old problem, whereas a glass wall would indicate some difficulties with perception. Walls closing in could describe the remembered feelings of birth, but is more likely to represent a feeling of being trapped by the lifestyle we have.

A brick wall, rampart or dividing wall all signify the difference between two states of reality – often the inner psychological state and the exterior, everyday world. Windows – windows describe the means by which we appreciate the world we live in, the way we perceive reality. Dreaming that we are looking outwards through a window can suggest that we have a more extrovert view of ourselves and will tend to look at external circumstances.
