Strangling Dream Meanings

Dreaming Lens: Were you being strangled in your dream? Were you strangling someone else? Who else was involved? Were you witnessing something that was occurring between two other people? Was the strangling fatal?

Personal Focus: Since strangling involves cutting off the air supply at the neck, communication is the focus of the interpretation of any dream with this image in it. It is important to recognize that there is a specific intention associated with strangling that is to cause death. Any death in a dream should be considered a transformation of such magnitude, that an inevitable rebirth must surely follow.

Strangling necessitates that two people are involved, which means you should consider the other person as a Character Aspect of yourself. If you are the aggressor, then the person you are choking is a part of your personality that you are attempting to or needing to stifle. You will have to decide if this is because you actually need to silence an inner voice that doesn’t serve you, or if your unconscious is expressing fear around an idea that wants to be expressed that you are not quite ready to listen to.

If you are being choked, look at who is attacking you. This represents some element of your psyche that is rising up and attempting to silence you or rob you of the breath of life. If you are witnessing two other people engaged in this act, use the Character Aspect technique to identify what parts of yourself are involved in some sort of inner turmoil.
